Virtual High-Level Forum of the Alliance in 2020 – ‘Digital Solutions for Trade Facilitation’

November 2020

In November 2020 the Alliance held this year’s high-level forum under the heading ‘Digital Solutions for Trade Facilitation’. How can successful cooperation between the public sector and private sector contribute to trade facilitation in challenging times? And what role can digitalisation play in this context?

The panels included a large number of high-ranking Alliance partners – customs directors from Cambodia and Sri Lanka and from the administration of Kenya, customs experts from the international corporations Beiersdorf, DHL and Maersk, as well as from UNCTAD. A high-ranking official from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) represented the German side.

This year’s virtual event was held over a period of two days and focused on digital processes in the context of trade facilitation and the challenges posed by the global pandemic. The international expert community gained insights into the numerous projects of the Alliance around the world and their impacts. The experts discussed innovative project approaches, new possibilities arising from the digitalisation of customs procedures, and potentials of concrete cooperation between government agencies and the private sector.

In this way, the Alliance has continued the expert dialogue between partner countries as well as German and international actors in its global network. The Alliance is open to further interested countries, companies and business associations. The digital solutions developed under the projects can also be upscaled and made available to further interested countries.

Next year the Alliance will hold another forum for global exchange on trade facilitation and relevant solutions.
