Training with the National Committee for Trade Facilitation in Jakarta
At the invitation of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade and the German Alliance for Trade Facilitation, ninety participants met in Jakarta on October 2, 2018 for a workshop under the theme “Promoting Border Agency Coordination towards Implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement”.
Since May 2018, the German Alliance for Trade Facilitation is engaged in Indonesia to plan a project on the implementation of the WTO TFA. In this context, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade and the Alliance organized the workshop to stimulate and advance the work of the National Committee for Trade Facilitation (NCTF) established in the spring. The meeting also provided an exchange platform for experts to discuss and agree on the next steps.
Tom Butterly, an international expert for NCTFs, led the lively discussion. Participants from 18 ministries, border agencies and the private sector learned how to use best practices for the coordination of trade facilitation reforms between different border authorities. Paramount to the discussion was the role and responsibilities of the NCTF and Indonesia’s most important trade facilitation reforms.
