Siemens Invites the Alliance to Working Meeting in Erlangen
For the first time since the Alliance was founded, partners and interested parties met to exchange information on planned Alliance projects and to discuss trade facilitation trends and developments. The one-day meeting on March 17, 2017 at Siemens AG in Erlangen had the goal to define the further course of the project implementation.
BMZ and GIZ representatives welcomed all participants and thanked the companies and associations for their active participation and provision of expertise to the ongoing Alliance projects. All participants were invited to discuss future challenges as well as possible solutions and opportunities. They shared their expertise and experiences from the respective project countries.
Another important theme of the meeting was the ratification and entry into force of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) on February 22, 2017. All WTO members are now required to implement the provisions of the agreement. Developed countries such as Germany have pledged to provide technical assistance to developing countries to implement those measures of the agreement for which developing countries request assistance. The Alliance’s work contributes significantly to this process.
Representatives from the BMWi and DHL provided exciting input on current trade policy developments in the G20 “Trade and Investment Working Group” and the B20. In this context, the relevance of the Alliance as an instrument for the implementation of the WTO TFA became very clear once again.
Special thanks go to Siemens for the organization and realization of the event. The next working meeting will take place on September 7, 2017 at DHL Express in Leipzig.
