First Scoping-Mission to Thailand Sucessfully Completed
A team of Thai and German representatives of the GIZ conducted a one week long scoping mission in Bangkok. The mission aimed at the gathering of detailed information for the development of possible projects. Several ideas were found through close consultations with representatives of the public and the private sector. Â
At the 5th working meeting of the German Alliance for Trade Facilitation in March 2019, Alliance members identified Thailand as a possible new project country. Thus, the GIZ executed a first scoping mission in October 2019. The Thai-German GIZ mission team held first consultations with Thai and global companies, Thai ministries and local authorities.
A workshop with representatives of the private sector discussed challenges faced by companies during import and export procedures. In meetings with the Thai Ministry of Commerce and the Thai customs authority they expressed their high interest in starting a project for trade facilitation. Furthermore, the mission team met with UN-ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) and the delegation of the European Union in Thailand. Overall, the numerous consultations led to several first ideas for a potential project.
In the beginning of 2020, a second mission to Thailand aims at concretizing those first project ideas and will discuss them with further relevant stakeholders. The aim is an agreement between the Thai administration and the private sector within the year 2020 for a new trade facilitation project.
